Episode 002--Going From Good To Great

It’s not uncommon to finish school, land your job, then get in a routine of checking off your daily routine.  The trouble is, you’re selling yourself short.  Finishing school isn’t the end of your growth—you’ve got a ton of potential to grow into.  We can all be good…but what if we want more?  What takes you from good to great?

In today’s episode, we hear from Richard Thompson, MD, cardiothoracic surgeon at Bryan Heart, cofounder of Together+Clinic (an online application for chronic care management), MBA and adjunct faculty at Nebraska Wesleyan University.  Rick (who is also one of my supervising physicians) has always been focused on enhancing performance of his team, whether in the operating room or in his tech startup.  Rick offers some practical tips to think about to help you grow from good to great:

  1. Attention to detail
  2. Gentleness
  3. Mental Imagery
  4. Practice & Repetition

While some of the specific examples are unique to surgical practices, the lessons apply across the board for PAs in any type of specialty.  Enjoy this podcast episode—it’s a little shorter than usual because Rick had to get to a meeting, but the info contained here will definitely help you excel in your practice.  Enjoy!
